According to the  announcement, the decision was based on the claim that Igbos are Nigeria’s most frequent travelers to China, making it more convenient to bring visa services closer to them.

The statement added:

“After careful consideration, we decided to relocate our embassy services closer to the people who travel the most. It makes little sense for applicants to travel long distances to Lagos or Abuja when we can bring our services nearer to them.”
