A former Egyptian pilot who fought alongside Nigeria during the Biafran War has spoken out, claiming that Biafran military camps blended so perfectly with the surrounding environment that they were almost impossible to detect from the air.
According to him, pilots could fly directly over Biafran positions and still fail to identify them because the camps appeared to merge with the landscape. He claimed the camouflage was so effective that Britain allegedly believed the Igbos were using voodoo to control the atmosphere.
The former pilot also claimed that the first Egyptian pilot assigned to bomb Biafran positions resigned after repeatedly failing to locate the camps from the air.
He further declared that the Igbos were more advanced at the time than most—if not all—African countries, and even ahead of several European nations in military innovation and wartime technology.
