UMUAHIA, Abia State — Governor Alex Otti has said that his decision to contest for the governorship of Abia State was inspired by his determination to reverse the decline of Aba and restore its place as one of Nigeria’s leading commercial cities.
Speaking on his motivation for seeking office, Otti said he watched with concern as other major cities continued to develop while Aba, long regarded as the economic heartbeat of the South-East, struggled with years of decaying infrastructure and economic setbacks.
According to the governor, he reached a point where he believed decisive leadership was necessary to change the city’s direction.
“I couldn’t watch Aba die. Something had to be done,” Otti said, stressing that rebuilding the city remains one of the defining missions of his administration.
Despite highlighting progress made since assuming office, the governor maintained that his administration is only at the beginning of its journey.
“I’ve not achieved even one percent of my vision for Aba,” he said, expressing confidence that greater transformation lies ahead.
Otti reaffirmed his commitment to improving infrastructure, strengthening public services, creating an environment that attracts investment, and restoring Aba’s status as a thriving commercial hub.
The governor said his administration remains focused on delivering lasting development that will improve the lives of residents and position Abia State for sustainable economic growth.
