The decision was reportedly reached during a meeting in Enugu, where the governors argued that the long-standing dominance of Dangote Cement, following the shutdown of Ibeto Cement, has created an unhealthy monopoly that must be addressed.
According to the report, the governors insisted that no Dangote Cement should be sold anywhere in the South-East until the Nigerian government lifts every restriction preventing Ibeto Cement from returning to full production. They described the move as a step toward promoting fair competition, protecting regional industries, and creating more economic opportunities.
They were quoted as saying: “The Hausa people mostly build mud houses. We are placing a ban on Dangote Cement until the Nigerian government’s ban on Ibeto Cement is lifted.”
